The Worshipful Deputy Mayor of Maidstone
Councillor Peter Parvin
Peter was born at Lambourn, Berkshire, to a horse racing family;
his father was a champion steeple chase jockey. Peter was educated
at King Alfred’s School, Wantage, and, on leaving, joined the Royal
Air Force, where he served for five years. During this time he saw
duty at home and all over the Middle East, including tours in the
Canal Zone and Aden. On leaving the RAF he joined Kent County
Constabulary, subsequently transferring to the Metropolitan Police
where he eventually retired on pension as a senior police
officer.
Peter has been married to Daphne, a fellow
councillor and a past mayor of Maidstone, for 54 years. They have
two children and seven grandchildren, all living in the Maidstone
area. He has represented Leeds Ward for some 15 years, during which
time he has served on most of the council committees; his favourite
committee, however, is Licensing, on which he has been Chairman
& Vice Chairman. He has served, and continues to serve, on a
number of outside bodies including Age Concern, Maidstone Relief in
Need Charity, The Upper Medway Drainage Board and, of course,
Maidstone-Beauvais Twinning Association where again he has been
Chairman and remains Vice Chairman.
His interests outside of the council include
Gardening, horse racing and meeting people socially.
