The Deputy Mayor

The Worshipful Deputy Mayor of Maidstone

Councillor Peter Parvin

Peter was born at Lambourn, Berkshire, to a horse racing family; his father was a champion steeple chase jockey. Peter was educated at King Alfred’s School, Wantage, and, on leaving, joined the Royal Air Force, where he served for five years. During this time he saw duty at home and all over the Middle East, including tours in the Canal Zone and Aden. On leaving the RAF he joined Kent County Constabulary, subsequently transferring to the Metropolitan Police where he eventually retired on pension as a senior police officer.

Peter has been married to Daphne, a fellow councillor and a past mayor of Maidstone, for 54 years. They have two children and seven grandchildren, all living in the Maidstone area. He has represented Leeds Ward for some 15 years, during which time he has served on most of the council committees; his favourite committee, however, is Licensing, on which he has been Chairman & Vice Chairman. He has served, and continues to serve, on a number of outside bodies including Age Concern, Maidstone Relief in Need Charity, The Upper Medway Drainage Board and, of course, Maidstone-Beauvais Twinning Association where again he has been Chairman and remains Vice Chairman.

His interests outside of the council include Gardening, horse racing and meeting people socially.
