The Mayor
Welcome
The Mayor of Maidstone is the First Citizen of the Borough. The
Mayor connects the present day with history, acting as a symbol of
continuity.
Our First Citizen can come from any walk of life, gender or
ethnic background.
The Mayor undertakes many social engagements within the Borough
of Maidstone and acts as a link between the various bodies and
organisations.
The Mayor presides over Full Council meetings.
The Worshipful the Mayor of Maidstone,
Cllr Peter Parvin
The current Mayor is Cllr Peter Parvin.
Peter was born in Lambourn, Berkshire, to a horse racing
family; his father was a champion steeple chase jockey. After
education at King Alfred’s School, Wantage, he joined the
Royal Air Force, serving for five years. During his time in
service, he saw duty at home and all over the Middle East,
including tours in the Canal Zone and Aden. On leaving the
RAF he joined Kent County Constabulary, subsequently transferring
to the Metropolitan Police and eventually retiring as a senior
police officer.
Peter has been married to Daphne, a fellow
councillor and a past Mayor of Maidstone, for 55 years. They have
two children and seven grandchildren, all living in the Maidstone
area. He has represented Leeds Ward for 14 years, during which time
he has served on most of the council committees; his favourite
committee, however, is Licensing, on which he has been Chairman
& Vice Chairman. He has served on a number of outside bodies,
including Age Concern, Maidstone Relief in Need Charity, The Upper
Medway Drainage Board and Maidstone-Beauvais Twinning Association,
where again he has been Chairman and remains Vice Chairman.
His interests outside of the council include
Gardening, horse racing and meeting people socially.
