  • Family appeal for hit and run Land Rover driver

    The devastated husband of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run is set to make an emotional plea today for the driver responsible to come forward.

    Mr Leedman’s wife Shirley, has been identified as the 70-year-old woman who died after she was knocked-down by a four wheel drive vehicle, last Thursday (October 8) morning.

    She lived nearby and the family will be at the scene of the collision, near to the railway bridge on the A20, Harrietsham, at 2pm.

  • Soldier said weapons theft was for a joke

    A couple drove a soldier to Glasgow unaware they had a bomb in the boot, a court was told.

    Unknown to them there was a quantity of plastic explosives and detonators stolen from his base.

    The car belonged to Sergeant B, one of four men charged with stealing and conspiring to steal ammunition and explosives from Howe Barracks, Canterbury.

  • Rapist jailed for 'appalling crimes'

    A rapist from Cliffsend has been jailed for nine years.

    John Mendy, 33, of Sandwich Road, will not be eligible for parole before four and a half years has been served.

    He was sentenced by Judge Adele Williams at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday last week.

    Mendy pleaded guilty to two rapes.

    The first attack came after he had given a woman a lift home from Margate’s DV8 nightclub in August.
