Parking Services

Welcome to Maidstone Borough Council Parking Services

Here you will find useful information on parking in the Borough of Maidstone, from parking permits and parking fines to the locations of parking zones and car parks.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ACT 2004

Changes to the way Maidstone Borough Council enforce parking regulations in accordance with the Civil Parking Enforcement Regulations have come into affect since 31st March 2008.

The new regulations, which form Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 are the biggest change to parking enforcement in England and Wales for many years.

Under the new regulations this activity will become known as Civil Parking Enforcement and Parking Attendants will become known as Civil Enforcement Officers.

There will be two levels of Penalty Charges depending on the severity of contraventions.

New Tarriff's for Penalty Charges

Higher Tariff for more serious contraventions Lower Tariff for less serious contraventions Discount Rate if paid within 14 days
 £70  £50  £35/£25

Maidstone Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Enviroinment agreed the charges on 15th February 2008.

Currently just over 50% of PCN’s issued in Maidstone would fall into the less serious category and so many people in the borough who fall foul of parking regulations will be paying less in the future.

The new regulations, which cover on street and off street parking, aim to make parking fairer and more transparent and provide motorists with a consistent service across the country.

Preparations include a full review of local parking orders, road markings and traffic signs to ensure they comply with the new regulations, changes are also required to IT systems, uniforms, printed stationery and staff training.

PARK MARK AWARDS

Many of the Council's car parks have been awarded the prestigious Park Mark Award, a scheme which is operated on behalf of the Association of Chief Police Officers by the British Parking Association.

The Park Mark Safer Parking award is granted to parking areas that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment as conducted by the Police. These requirements mean the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking area.
