Private Sector Housing

The Private Sector Housing Service within the Housing division aims to exercise a regulatory / enforcement / encouraging role against private property owners.  We do this to eliminate unsafe and unhealthy living conditions, to maximise the supply of good quality decent housing and to increase the energy efficiency of domestic dwellings in order to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the district.

We will re-focus our efforts to improve housing by moving away from fitness for habitation and looking at hazards within a dwelling and how to mitigate their effect.  Government targets for decent homes in the private sector is another driver that will push our focus towards thermal comfort rather than disrepair.
