There are five goals for a Fairtrade Borough that the Maisdtone Borough Fairtrade Steering Group have been working towards since January 2006.

 

  • Local council passes a resolution supporting Fairtrade, and agrees to serve Fairtrade tea and coffee at its meetings and in its offices and canteens. ACHIEVED!

 

  • A range of (at least two) Fairtrade products is readily available in the area’s shops and local.SURVEY COMPLETE AND TARGET REACHED!

 

  • cafés/catering establishments.Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places (estate agents, hairdressers etc) and community organisations (churches, schools etc) NEXT TARGET

 

  • Attract media coverage and popular support for the campaign:ONGOING

 

  • A local Fairtrade steering group is convened to ensure continued commitment to its FairtradeTown status: ACHIEVED!

 

The steering group has run Fairtade taster days in the Chequers Mall and also attends the annual Mela Festival where they serve Fairtrade coffee, chocolate kebabs, cakes and biscuits with sponsorship from the COOP and Maidstone Starbucks. Look out for us again this year!
