Council Tax

 

Council Tax Bands

 

There are currently 8 council tax bands. These are shown below, together with the percentage ratio of Band D. For example; Someone living in a property in Band A will pay 6/9ths of someone who lives in a Band D property and so on.

Up to 40,000 6/9ths

B

40,001 to 52,000 7/9ths

C

52,001 to 68,000 8/9ths

D

68,001 to 88,000 9/9 (1)

E

88,001 to 120,000 11/9ths

F

120,001 to 160,000 13/9ths

G

160,001 to 320,000 15/9ths

H

320,001 and above 18/9ths

 

 

Every domestic property will fall within one of these eight bands and your Council Tax Bill will show you what Band your property is in. The current list was created in 1993 and used the retail value of the property as it would have been on 1st April 1991.

Who decides what Band should be used?

 

The Banding of all properties is decided by The Valuation Office Agency, an independant government agency who can be contacted at:

Glossary

 

Chargeable Dwelling- This is defined as "Any dwelling in respect of which council tax is payable"
