Report Benefit Fraud

 

You can report suspect benefit fraud that is happening in the MAIDSTONE Borough area. We treat all reports as confidential.

 

Please read these notes carefully before completing the form.

 

This online form has been designed to help us to help you and to ensure that any benefits awarded are distributed fairly to those who really need it. If you suspect that someone in the Maidstone Borough area, who is receiving Council Tax Benefit or Housing Benefit is claiming money to which they are not entitled, please use this form.

 

We need as much information about your suspicion as possible as this allows a more thorough investigation to be carried out and a quicker decision to be made.

 

Providing your details IS OPTIONAL. Should you provide any information about yourself, we will ensure that it is confidential; it may even assist us in our investigation.
Maidstone Borough Council is unable to provide any information on the details of a claim, progression or outcome as this violates the Data Protection Act. We therefore apologise that even if you provide the initial information requested on the attached form, we would be legally restricted from releasing any information to you. We will however ensure that we acknowledge your referral if you provide your details and we will advise you when our investigation is completed. In addition it is our policy to take action and publicise our results so they become known to the general public if legal action is taken.
Maidstone Borough Council takes its obligations under the Data Protection Legislation very seriously and will not disclose information to any unauthorised person. Information may be shared with other services within the Council or disclosed to other Local and Public Authorities or Government agencies that have a legitimate reason to request the disclosure. The Council is under a duty to protect the public funds that it administers and to this end, it may use the information that you have provided for the prevention and detection of crime and / or fraud. It may also share this information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds for these purposes.
